  China welcomes foreign journalists to cover Tibet  
  BEIJING, Dec. 30(Editor: Huang Rui )-- "China welcomes foreign journalists to report on Tibet Autonomous Region, southwestern China, personally and will offer necessary help when needed", said Wang Chen, director of the State Information Office, in the press conference of the State Information Office held today, December 30 in Beijing.
Foreign journalists are allowed to witness the moment with all Tibetan people and the Chinese government is also happy to offer help when necessary, according to the press conference. ( Read more...)
 
  Cross-strait direct mail starts in Lhasa

BEIJING, Dec. 30-- Tibetans could enjoy the postal business services such as mail packages by air, land, sea or EMS directly from Tibet to Taiwan since Dec 29.
Chen Kexin, deputy manager of TAR Post operation department said: "In the past, it always cost long time to mail a letter to Taiwan, because all the letters need to stop at Hong Kong then to Taiwan. Now the direct mail can not only save time, but also provide the direct inquiry services for senders."
Besides, the charges of all the types of postal service will follow the national standard.(Editor: Huang Rui).
 
  Qinghai-Tibet Plateau to embrace 6 more railway lines by 2020

BEIJING, Dec. 3 -- By 2020, six main railway lines and some branches connecting Tibet Autonomous Region and Qinghai Province with other parts of China, are expected to be built and put into operation, thus enabling a closer economic and cultural exchange between Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and the whole nation.
According to Li Li, principal of Qinghai-Tibet Railway Company, tying with the Qinghai-Tibet Railway, the six forthcoming railways are: Xining to Zhangye of Lanzhou-Urumchi 2nd Double Line Rail, Golmud to Dunhuang, Kuerle and Chengdu and Lhasa to Xigaze and Nyingchi prefectures.
Construction of the 2nd Line of Xining-Golmud Section of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway is now in full swing and will be finished in 2012.(Editor: Bi )

Official: Potala Palace repairs near completion

LHASA, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- The second-phase repair work on the Potala Palace, an iconic building in Lhasa, southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, is nearing completion, said an administrative official Sunday.
Champa Kelsang, chief of the administration for Potala Palace, said "some 150 million yuan (about 22.1 million U.S. dollars) has been spent on the second phase of the repairs of the Potala Palace. Also, the schedule has it that the repair work should be finished by the year end." ( Read more...)

 
  Tibet's tourism recovers quickly from March 14 violence

BEIJING, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Tibet Autonomous Region was seeing quick recovery of local tourism industry over the last two months from the impact of the March 14 violence, an official with the China National Tourism Administration (CNTA) said on Tuesday.
The March 14 violence led to the deaths of at least 18 civilians and one policeman. It also left 382 civilians and 241 police injured, businesses looted and residences, shops and vehicles torched.
